The School of Social Work turns 50!

Join us on November 9 and 10 for the 50th Anniversary of the McMaster University School of Social Work. Connect with alumni, faculty and students and re-connect with friends for a chance to remember, reflect, and reimagine futures for the School and for social work in general.

Nov 01, 2018

The 50th Anniversary will foster connections and re-connections among alumni, students and instructors; offer a chance to talk together about current educational and research initiatives; and create opportunities for remembering, reflecting, and imagining the next decade.

We are excited to announce that on Saturday we will have a keynote presentation from the Honourable Wanda Thomas Bernard, Senator!

Other weekend events include:

  • Performances by the School of Social Work Band and singers from Six Nations!
  • Chances to learn about current School of Social Work research, programs and initiatives
  • Campus tours organized by current students!
  • Chance to participate in Stitch-by-Stitch: A Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report Sewing Circle & Reading Group, facilitated by Helene Vosters.
  • Come have your say at our Speaker's Corner: Share a story about your time as a student… What do you carry with you from your time here? What was the most important thing
you learned? What advice would you give to the graduating class, or what hope or wish do you have for them?
  • ...And of course, there will be many opportunities to reconnect, mingle and chat with friends, old and new!

We have a full line up of events all weekend long and of course, there will be many opportunities to reconnect, mingle and chat with friends, old and new!
