Advancing education and practice in child welfare

The McMaster University School of Social Work and partner child welfare agencies are proud to formally announce the a new program, Preparing for Critical Practice in Child Welfare Pathway through the BSW.

Mar 06, 2018

McMaster University School of Social Work is proud to announce details of a child welfare specialization the McMaster BSW program that has been funded by partner child welfare agencies—the Preparing for Critical Practice in Child Welfare Pathway. Planning for the specialization began in 2014 and the pilot was launched in 2017. The specialization is currently in a pilot stage connected to a research project that seeks to determine whether the specialization better prepares students for the field of child welfare. If outcomes are positive, McMaster School of Social Work will seek ways to make the specialization a permanent optional specialization within its BSW program, and will share findings with other schools in the province and beyond.
