BSW Alumna Dayirai Kapfunde awarded King Charles III Coronation Medal

BSW Alumna Dayirai Kapfunde was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for Community Service in recognition of her contributions to mental health advocacy, decolonizing and destigmatizing mental health, and community impact. The award was conferred by Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard on February 8, 2025.
Dayirai said, “As a proud graduate of McMaster University, my education in social work has been foundational in shaping my career and commitment to healing, justice, and community well-being. This honor reaffirms the importance of the work we do as social workers in advancing equity and systemic change.”
The Coronation Medal was created to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and it is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region of, or community in, Canada, or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.
