The School of Social Work is pleased to share the open textbook, Black Epistemologies of Interlocking Solidarities, written by Kojo Damptey; Ahona Mehdi; Cassandra Garcia; Koubra Haggar; Sabreina Dahab; Ruth Rodney; Terri Bedminster; and Desmond Cole. Edited by Ahona Mehdi and Kojo Damptey.
Book Description: As the field of Black Studies in Canada expands, this book situates Black epistemologies and knowledge from Black/African Canadians living in Ontario.
As Kojo Damptey, Social Work PhD student writes, “This textbook/course material features writing from community leaders/organizers Sabreina Dahab and Koubra Haggar, McMaster student Cassandra Garcia, journalist Desmond Cole, and Dr. Ruth Rodney (York University). It’s truly an interdisciplinary project that connects and builds on the long-standing leadership, work, and dedication to social justice from the Black community alongside other communities.
The ideas, stories, positions, and documentation in this project is not only for McMaster faculty and students, but also for community members as well. I hope you will read it, share it, and use it in your own work where applicable.
In the spirit of Emancipation month please find the link to the book”:
