Special Topics in Anthropology (Winter 2020)

(Dis)ability and Care: Bioarchaeological Perspectives: What does disability mean? Is it the same now as it was ‘back then’? Can bioarchaeologists reconstruct the lived experiences of people with impairments? What ‘care’ was available to people with impairments/disabilities in the past? This course will explore these questions, and more through an applied, and critical analysis of how individual’s experienced impairment, disability, and care provision in the past. Through our investigations, we will propose innovative directions and solutions to challenges in the rapidly growing bioarchaeology of impairment, disability, and care studies.
